This is the abridged version of Fridrikh Gorenshtein's 1972 playscript for filming a 90 minute length motion picture feature. For the full 120 minute feature playscript, see scripts.com, Solaris, 1972[note 1]
This abridged script attempts to highlight the mystery of Solaris, rather than relying on extended features that expound on what Solaris is, and what it's doing—exploring a balance between Gorenshtein's original script, and the final 1972 feature.[note 2]
From the original script we get an expanded alternate ending, probably better than what was filmed in the 1972 final cut.

Notes[]
- ↑ The Solaris (1972 film) adds extended footage to the introduction, increasing the feature length to an additional 45 minutes, for a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes. This includes an extended cabin scene where a playback of government personnel discuss Solaris, and an extended freeway roadtrip.
- ↑ Both Gorenshtein's original script, and the final feature add unnecessary sequences that exhausts the audience, loosing some of the unique mystery of Solaris. Thus, an abridged version is necessary.
